Can a bone scan determine the age of a stress fracture or just if there is a stress fracture? After my husband fell 12 ft doctors ordered a MRI and said he had a stress fracture of the L5. Then they ordered a bone scan said it was an old stress fracture and workmens comp would not pay to repair the stress fracture. I have read all kinds of articles on a bone scan and have found no evidence that age of a stress fracture is determined just that there is a stress fracture. Can you lets us know if the age of the stress fracture can be determined? Thanks.
What does radiopharmaceutical uptake from a bone scan mean? I had thyroid cancer a year ago with successful removal of left thyroid and radiation iodine therapy on the right one. Since then, I have a bone scan every six months with the last three findings stating a triangular collection of radiopharmaceutical uptake present in the upper neck. And that there is activity in the salivary glands.
What would be the average cost of a bone scan? I was recommended to get a bone scan(where they give you an radioactive dye injection then run you through a X-ray machine) by my orthopedist, but since I am self-pay(uninsured) I would like to know where I can get one(lumbar spine region) for a 'reasonable' price.
Is a bone scan used to diagnose childhood leukemia? Is it the normal procedure? My son is 7 and has been having severe leg pain which has spread to other parts of his leg. He had a blood test done to rule out leukemia and his doctor hasn't called to let me know the results but they did call and tell me that he was scheduled for a bone scan. I would just like to know if this a normal procedure if something was found in his blood or what? Please help.
Who is the inventor of the bone scan? I need help finding the inventor or teh historical perspective of teh bone scan. In other words I need to ind out about the first version of the machine and how the tehnology has changed over the years
Has anyone ever had a Bone Scan before? What happens when you get one? Has you ever had a bone scan before? I have never, and I'm going in for one tomorrow. What happens? what are the side affects? and is it painful? Have you ever had an expirience with one before? How did you react to it? Please help me! I am so desparate, nervous and scared, especially considering that I am afraid of needles...I am going because I might have a stress fracture in my lower back. Advice please!
Pain from the needle after a bone scan? I had a bone scan done earlier today. Everything went fine with the needle (it took them a little while to find a vein but other then that everything went well) but a little while afterwards I started feeling really achy and tired. Now (about 5ish hours later) my arm is in alot of pain and I'm having trouble moving my fingers/making a fist. I feel kind of light headed as well. is this normal?
Bone Scan - Does this process involve any exposure to radiation as in X Ray? My doctor would like me to have a bone scan on my ankle. I am not happy with x rays, in that, I know that one is exposed to radiation during this process. So what about bone scans do they involve exposure to radiation or indeed anything else? Thank you to all you guys you are so caring and of course informative. I feel I can now make a decision based on the replies you have all supplied. Thank you once again.
How can I convert bone scan (DEXA) T-scores to Z-scores? I have the T-scores, which compares bone density to that of a young adult. I want to convert those to a Z-score, comparing bone density to a peer in a similar age range. (Specifically, my mother has T-scores of -3.0 and -3.3.) Thanks!
Something showed up on a bone scan? My mom had a bone scan and everything was fine except something showed up on her right side kidney. The dr said it could be just muscle. What else could it be? She's going to make an appointment to get that checked out.
Has anyone had an adverse reaction to nuclear dye administered with a bone scan? Once the first injection was done, tech had a very hard time and the vein exploded. She then tried two more times as I continued to complain of pain and intense burning. 5 hours later I came back for the rest of the test and asked if I should still have intense burning and swelling? I also had a migran, but they had an excuse for everything. Two days later, I could not lift anything with this hand, and it looked like I had a chemical burn that was groing up my arm. I called back (friday- 2:30pm)and was told again that no one ever reacts to the dyes, but if I still had the symptoms on monday, to let them know. Friday night I was taken via ambulance to the er in full blown anaphlactic shock. Have eppi- pens now. Allergist said that she cannot confere that this is what caused the reaction, but has nothing else to go on. I have not changed depodorants, medicince, or eating habilts. Since I have been the ER 4 times because of this, the last doctor mentioned that if I had a raised red/warm welt that that could be the indication that the dye infiltrated the skin. This could take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to leave or up to a month. Meanwhile, I keep have reactions to normal things that I have before this. No ryhyme or reason.
Is a bone scan advised with my symptoms? Had prostatectomy 2 years ago. All PSA's since then < 0.1 inlcuding the one in Feb 07. Have had mild, dull hip pain for last 4 weeks (right side only). Only hurts when sitting. Have a new bicycle with narrow seat. Pain worse after riding so I quit riding. My doctor (GP) did a quick exam and is sending me for bone scan, supposedly suspecting a hairline crack in hip bone. Do the symptoms fit this preliminary diagnosis? By the way, had MRI bone scan before surgery in 2005 which was negative for bone cancer. Should I go ahead with the bone scan for the value of it finding other things?
why would i need a bone scan? My doctor just called me back to tell me my blood test results. she told my my enzymes were high and that i should retest. if they come back high again i would need a bone scan. does anyone know why i would need a bone scan if my enzymes were high? should i be worried?
Do you think a bone scan would be helpful? My child have had several joint related issues over the last 7 years, including 2 fractures. Sometimes complains of problems with knee, hip, ankle, just to name a few. Blood test are back and forth between positive and negative for inflammation of the joints. Have not been diagnosed with anything, (which is good) but makes it very hard to not miss days from school.
An x-ray showed a lesion, but bone scan was normal, Orthopedics student perhaps????? A recent visit to an orthopedic surgeon showed a lesion on my hip, he sent me for a bone scan which came back normal. The surgeon is away on holidays now and I just got the results from my GP, who wouldn't comment. Does anyone know what the possibilities are? Symptoms include, pain, swelling, limited movement in hip joint, night sweats and tiredness.
What does it mean when a bone scan shows that... please read?? So my Mom is having severe bone pain, in her hips and legs. She's already had a blood clot removed, and it still hurt. She went in to get a bone scan, and now they told her that she needs to have an MRI.. aparrently the documentation she picked up from the hospital showed that they were looking for metastatic CA. She had the MRI today, no one will tell her anything except that her hip bone looked like it had been chewed on?? What does this mean?? She has already had cancer - anal.. she also has had her parathyroid (I think that was it) removed b/c of too much calcium, shes had an artery collapse as well. She refuses to go under the knife again..
Can you diagnose this bone scan? There is mottled increase periosteal uptake along the upper to lower tibial shaft medially. There is a similar findingon the right tibia, but it is less impressive. IMPRESSION: Abnormal limited bone scan demonstration; left greater than right periosteal tibial reaction pattern.
Where can you go for a Bone Density scan? i've been searching the web, but not sure where to have one done. Do i they have them at clinics ? or do i have to go to a actual hospital? Also whats the cost for this service?
Interpreting A Bone Scan? During my recent bone scan, the person administering the test was on the phone for at least half of the time that I was lying on the table! I really should have said something to him at the time, especially since his call was of a personal nature. I'm angry at myself for not speaking up at the time this happened because now I have doubts about my results. What if he was distracted and missed something on the computer screen? The bone scan turned out to be negative but the xray I had prior to the bone scan showed I had a bone lesion. I suppose I wouldn't be so anxious if I didn't have this unrelenting bone pain. Are the bone scan images interpreted by someone other than the person administering the test? Does the person administering the test have to be on the look-out for any hot-spots that may appear on the screen? If anything, I hope my experience will encourage others to speak-up when they feel they are being treated in an unprofessional manner.
Question about bone scan? I am having a bone scan tomorrow and was told that the only pain related to the scan is from? the needle unless I have joint/bone pain.....which I have. How bad is this going to hurt any areas I am experiencing pain already?
Bone scan advice? What exactly is involved in having a bone scan (to detect bone metastases, not a bone density scan)? How long does it take, what's the scanner like etc. I'm hoping for answers from people who've had a bone scan, or of course medical professionals who can describe the process. Thank you Thanks for the answers so far. Simmi and Quijjibored - how long between the injection and the actual scan? Inverse - yes it's me that's having the scan, but I'm uncharacteristically optimistic about it :) I'm currently more worried about the scan than the results.
Seniors, concerning osteoporosis, did you or do you have a bone scan to determine the strength of your bones? How often should one have this type of test and at what age? I had a bone scan a couple of years ago, but it was due to breaking my hip, and the doctor though my bones may be thinning, but that was not the case. Curious to know if anyone has this bone density test done occasionally. Thank you. Old guy, I was doing pretty darn good with your answer until you said you told me to ditch the cookies. You really know how to hurt a girl now don't ya? lol
